Jr. High All-State Band Information Sheet for 2025-2026 School Year Dear Directors, Parents, and Students,

It is exciting to announce information for this year’s Utah Jr. High All-State Band. I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Nate Seamons, Assistant Director of Band at BYU will be the director of this year’s ensemble.

We will be at full numbers again for this year's ensemble which will create a band of 100 – 110 students. Please find the link on the Jr. High All-State Band Page to open your audition etude.

The audition submission link will be open in late October/early November. The audition will be due on or before 11:59 pm on Tuesday November 11th, 2025.

The Audition fee is $20. If you are selected to participate there is an additional fee due of $75. This helps pay for the rental and use of Abravanel Hall, the music, and participant t-shirt. You must commit to the entire rehearsal on Thursday January 15th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Sage Canyon Middle School in Eagle Mountain, Utah. You will need a sack lunch for that day. The Grand Concert is in the beautiful Abravanel Hall in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday January 16th at 7:00 pm and will be shared with the Utah High School All-State Bands. The concert will conclude before 9:00 pm. Students are expected to stay for the entire concert. The concert is free and open to families and the public. All participating students need to be at Abravanel Hall on Saturday January 16th at 5pm dressed in concert black. Students will have a 1-hour sound check and rehearsal on the stage before the stage is cleared and the hall is opened to the public. You will be expected to provide your own transportation for both January 15th and 16th. If you cannot commit to the entire rehearsal day on January 15th as well as the sound check and concert on January 16th , do not audition.

Audition Process:

1. Use the best recording equipment you have available to get your best possible recording.

2. Woodwind and Brass players….play your 1 octave Bb Concert Chromatic Scale in quarter notes tonguing each note at a tempo of 120bpm. Please hold the top note for four counts, take a breath and then play the scale descending, repeating the top note, then holding the bottom note for four counts. Be sure to tongue each note and hold the top note for four counts as well as the final note for four counts. (YOU WILL MAKE A VIDEO FOR THE SCALE AND A SEPARATE VIDEO FOR THE ETUDE.!!!)

3. Woodwind and Brass players will next play this year's audition etude from the following website.

www.auditionsolos.com Click on your instrument and play the 1A etude with the B ending. Follow as closely as you can the assigned tempo of the etude.

4. Percussion Students play the mallet etude followed by the snare etude and submit as two videos. Follow the assigned tempo marking to your best ability. Your music is found at the bottom of the Audition Information Link.

5. When you make your video, please use this format: Name and instrument and etude/chromatic (snare/mallet for percussion)...not school, not grade, not director.

Thanks, and Good Luck.
